A 36-year old Vinayakam is a weaver who hails from KSP Nagar of Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. He and his wife Rajeshwari works more than 10 hours a day weaving specialised silk sarees but they earn no more than rupees 10-12,000 per month.
They have a son who goes to a government school and is enrolled in grade 5. Vinayakam says “I will certainly like my son to learn weaving techniques but I would not want him to become a weaver by profession.
